working across three sites

Why do the Drs Rotate across the 3 sites ?

We understand that this method of working causes some inconvenience for patients, it is also more inconvenient for the Drs involved since we no longer have fixed “offices”. Thus there must be very good reasons to operate this way …. there are….

  • There is good evidence that working in isolation does increase stress and decrease performance.
  • At  some point e.g during leave / illness the Drs would be expected to cover any of the three sites therefore it is vital that all the Drs have a working knowledge of all the three sites in terms of work patterns and geography.
  • Rotating Drs allows patients at each of the three sites to have a choice of which clinician they see.
  • Each of the Drs have specialist areas of knowledge, which should benefit each site.
  • A rotation of Drs ensures that many clinical decisions are being reviewed by different clinicians – two heads are better than one – and five are definitely better than one.
  • Governance …. put bluntly …. we all watch each other!

What happens if I want to see a particular Dr and I cannot reach their site?

  • We envisage that this should be a relatively rare occurrence since unlike some surgeries we do book appointments well ahead.
  • If your need is urgent, then any of the Drs will be able to initially deal with your problem, they will have access to your “regular” Dr and will hand back care should you require it.
  • If you have difficulty in securing an appointment with the Dr, you can arrange for a phone consultation or write in, so that in extreme circumstances the Dr can make special arrangements.
